The City of Slaton provides water utility services to residential and commercial customers within the city limits. Utility rates, deposits, billing procedures, and service policies are established by city ordinance.


Residential Water Rates:

Residential water rates are billed as follows:

  • First 2,000 Gallons — $25.25 Minimum
  • 2,001 – 10,000 Gallons — $4.50 per 1,000 gallons
  • 10,001 – 15,000 Gallons — $5.50 per 1,000 gallons
  • Over 15,000 Gallons — $5.75 per 1,000 gallons

Commercial Water Rates:

Commercial water rates are billed as follows:

  • First 2,000 Gallons — $27.50 Minimum
  • Bulk Rate — $4.75 per 1,000 gallons

Water Tap Fees:

Water tap fees are as follows:

  • Standard Residential ¾-Inch Tap (Includes Labor and Meter) — $1,250.00
  • 1-Inch Tap — $1,500.00
  • 2-Inch Tap or Larger — $500.00 plus Meter and Materials

Senior Citizen Utility Rates:

Residential utility customers over the age of 70 may qualify for reduced utility rates.

  • First 2,000 Gallons — $19.00
  • Over 2,000 Gallons — $4.24 per 1,000 gallons

Sewer

  • First 2,000 Gallons — $17.50
  • 2,001 – 4,000 Gallons — $0.75 per 1,000 gallons
  • Over 4,000 Gallons — $1.00 per 1,000 gallons

Residential sewer charges are capped at $30.00.

Additional Charges:

  • Street Fee — $12.48
  • Sanitation — $22.16 plus applicable sales tax

Disability Rate:

Residential customers whose household income is limited to Social Security Disability benefits or Supplemental Security Income may qualify for the disability utility rate if water usage remains under 2,000 gallons.

Water:

  • First 2,000 Gallons — $17.00
  • Over 2,000 Gallons — $4.24 per 1,000 gallons

Sewer:

  • First 2,000 Gallons — $17.50
  • 2,001 – 4,000 Gallons — $0.75 per 1,000 gallons
  • Over 4,000 Gallons — $1.00 per 1,000 gallons

Residential sewer charges are capped at $23.00.

Additional Charges

  • Street Fee — $12.48
  • Sanitation — $22.16 plus applicable sales tax

Excessive usage may disqualify a customer from the disability rate program.


Utility Deposits:

Residential Accounts:

  • Initial Deposit — $150.00
  • Additional Deposit After Non-Payment Cutoff — $50.00
  • Maximum Residential Deposit — $200.00

Commercial & Multi-Family Accounts:

  • Initial Deposit — $200.00
  • Additional Deposit After Non-Payment Cutoff — $75.00

An additional $100.00 deposit will be required if utility services have been disconnected for non-payment two times.


Billing Periods:

The City of Slaton utility system is divided into two billing zones:

Zone 1 – East Side:

  • Billing Period: 15th of the month through the 15th of the following month
  • Payment Due Date: On or before the 30th of each month

Zone 2 – West Side:

  • Billing Period: 30th of the month through the 30th of the following month
  • Payment Due Date: On or before the 15th of each month

Utility bills display separate charges for each service provided.


Late Fees & Service Disconnection:

  • Bills not paid by the due date are considered past due and subject to a 10% penalty
  • Postdated checks are not accepted
  • Utility service may be disconnected 10 days after notification of past due status
  • A $20.00 service fee will be added if payment is not received by 10:00 a.m. on the cutoff date

Service may be disconnected at any time after the cutoff date without additional notice.


Reconnect Fees:

The following reconnect fees apply after disconnection for non-payment:

  • During Regular Business Hours — $25.00
  • After Regular Business Hours — $50.00

An additional $100.00 deposit will be required if utilities have been disconnected two times.


Extensions:

Customers may receive a maximum of:

  • Two (2) utility bill extensions per calendar year
  • Up to 10 days past the cutoff date

No exceptions will be granted.


Theft of Service:

First Offense:

  • Full balance must be paid
  • Additional $100.00 deposit required
  • No extensions allowed for one year

Second Offense:

Accounts will be referred to the Slaton Police Department and criminal charges may be filed.


Returned Check Charges:

Personal or business checks returned by a financial institution for any reason are subject to a:

  • $30.00 Returned Check Fee
FAQs

To set up service, you will need to come in and fill out an application or bring a completed application with you. Please bring your driver’s license and Social Security card. A $100 deposit is required at the time of setup.

Payments may be made in the following ways:

  • In person at City Hall, or the drive-up window from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm
  • In the night depository located next to the drive-up window
  • In the mail
  • By bank draft (you must provide us with the bank information)
  • Pay on-line
