Mission
The mission of the Slaton Fire Department is to prevent injury, loss of life, and damage or loss of property due to fire and related health and safety hazards.
History
The Santa Fe Railroad established the City of Slaton in 1911. In 1919, residents formed a bucket brigade to help fight fires. Alex DeLong served as Fire Chief of this early group, which utilized chemical tanks and buckets of water drawn from wells to extinguish fires.
In 1920, the city began work on a water system and fire mains, significantly improving fire protection capabilities. By 1922, the city purchased its first fire truck. Over the years, the volunteer fire department expanded in both personnel and equipment, initially operating out of City Hall before moving into its own fire station in 1928.
Today, the Slaton Fire Department serves not only the City of Slaton but also surrounding communities.
