The City Secretary’s Office is responsible for maintaining official city records, supporting city governance, and serving as a resource for residents and elected officials.
Services
The City Secretary’s Office is responsible for the following services and duties:
- Processing all Open Records Requests (FOIA/Public Information Requests)
- Preparing and posting City Commission meeting agendas
- Attending all City Commission meetings and work sessions to record official minutes
- Conducting general and special municipal elections
- Ordinance codification
- Certifying and attesting to official city documents
- Receiving official campaign contribution and expenditure reports as required by the Texas Ethics Commission
- Publishing official notices
- Acting as a liaison between the City and citizens
- Registering coin-operated machines and issuing tax decals
- Collecting and maintaining records for sanitary sewer service charges
- Maintaining the official traffic register and related traffic control records
- Processing applications for wrecking yard and junkyard licenses
- Maintaining official zoning records, including the adopted zoning map
City Commission Meetings
The City Commission serves as the governing body of the City of Slaton and conducts regular meetings to address city business, review agenda items, and make decisions that impact the community.
Meeting Schedule
Regular City Commission meetings are held:
- 6:30 p.m.
- Second Monday of each month
- City Hall – 130 S. 9th Street, Slaton, TX 79364
If a holiday falls on the scheduled meeting date, the meeting may be moved in accordance with city scheduling requirements.
Agenda Requests
Residents who wish to place an item on a City Commission agenda must submit their request in writing to the City Secretary no later than 5:00 p.m. on the Tuesday prior to the monthly meeting.
City Commission meeting agendas are posted prior to scheduled meetings in accordance with state public notice requirements.
