History
Slaton Englewood Cemetery was established with its first burial on May 10, 1912, when an infant, J.W. Obrian, was laid to rest. Since that time, the cemetery has expanded through five land additions between 1914 and 1972, and now encompasses approximately 49 acres.
The cemetery is the final resting place for many early settlers of the area, with over 6,800 burials to date. Veterans from the Spanish-American War, Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War are honored here.
Within the original cemetery grounds lies a Potter’s Field, which includes unmarked graves and a variety of markers, including handmade, wood, concrete, and stone markers.
