The Caprock Chapter of the Texas Air Museum – Caprock Chapter serves as a tribute to the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces by preserving aviation and military history through air and ground memorabilia from multiple eras.

The museum is located approximately three miles north of Slaton at the Slaton Municipal Airport.


Displays & Exhibits

The Texas Air Museum – Caprock Chapter features a wide variety of artifacts and exhibits for visitors to explore.

Visitors can experience:

  • A static airplane display yard
  • Hangars featuring operational aircraft
  • Two artifact buildings showcasing the history of military aviation
  • Exhibits covering aviation history from World War I through modern aviation and spaceflight

The museum’s collection includes artifacts from:

  • Korean War
  • Vietnam War
  • Gulf Wars

Notable artifacts include:

  • An original World War I biplane
  • Authentic World War II and Vietnam-era pilot suits
  • Ground training equipment
  • Pieces from the USS Cabot (CVL-28) aircraft carrier
  • A German Flak cannon
  • A Gemini spacecraft training capsule training capsule used by astronaut Gus Grissom
  • Detailed aircraft models and dioramas

Museum volunteers are available to help guide visitors through the exhibits and share the history behind the collection.


Air Shows

As part of its mission to preserve aviation history, the Texas Air Museum – Caprock Chapter hosts air shows that help keep military aviation history alive for future generations.

The air show serves as one of the museum’s primary fundraising efforts and helps support maintenance, operations, and future expansion projects.

Air shows are held every two years, with the next scheduled air show taking place in June 2027.
